September 2003 In the last months, we have performed several important repairs on our locomotive, many of which are required for restarting the prime mover.
- We have purchased 10 new batteries which were offered to the foundation by the Akksi Ltd. of Zalaegerszeg at a reduced price.
- We have acquired all spare parts necessary for the repair of the four damaged cylinders of the prime mover. Many parts were delivered to us free of charge by the European GM-EMD representative Turner Diesel of Scotland. In August, we have finished all vital repairs of the four damaged cylinders. A complete lubricating oil change will be necessary prior to restarting the engine; additional costs of several thousand EUR are thus expected.
- We have completed the restoration of the battery box, incuding the renewal of the severely corroded battery box doors.
- As the first step of carbody restoration, we have removed a cab door for cleaning and repairs. Wooden frame elements, glass panes and rubber gaskets are already at our disposal or will be purchased in the next future. The extremely worn state of the door implies repair costs of up to EUR 400; it is expected that also the remaining three cab doors will require a similar amount of restoration work.
- To overcome stprage space problems, we have acquired a second-hand container for tools and spare parts.
